John Vorhies
Candidate for Department
Commandant

PDD John Vorhies:

At the San Luis Obispo Department Conference, I announced my intention to seek the office of Commandant of the Dept. of California, Marine Corps League. On the National level I am the Co-Chairman of the Youth Physical Fitness Program. I am also on the National committee for Expo-West held every year at Camp Pendleton.

On the Dept. level I was the Sgt.-at-Arms for three years. I have held the office of Sr. Vice Commandant for the last two years. On the det. level I held the office of Jr. Vice, Sr. Vice, and Commandant for two years each. During my term as Commandant of Det.835 we were voted as the Non-Profit organization of the year for San Diego County. I have been Marine of the year for both Det. 835 and the Dept. of California, as well as Dog of the year for both Pound 240 and Pack of California. I was also instrumental in holding the last two Dept. Conventions in San Diego when no one else would step up to the plate.

I would be honored if you would consider me worthy for the office of Commandant of the Dept. of California.

Marine Vorhies, has also been awarded Military Order of the Devil Dog Pound 240, “Pound Dog Of The Year 2006” and was duly elected Worthy Jr. Vice Pack Leader, Pack of California.

Actively involved with Marine Corps League National “Youth Physical Fitness Program”, 2 years running, Marine Vorhies has also availed himself, selflessly as Sgt. At Arms for the Department of California Marine Corps which has the taxing requirement of travel through out the State of California.  Under Marine Vorhies direction the detachment hosted Marine Corps League Department of California, 74th and 75th Convention ceremonies in San Diego

As an upstanding citizen of the City of La Mesa, California, John has been involved foremost as a dual member in the Lake Murray Kiwanis Club, 2006 President, and director in the Lakeside Kiwanis Club, again contributing many hours of time, talent, and many philanthropic contributions through membership as a member of the Corporation Board of Directors of The Home Of Guiding Hands with Offices in El Cajon, CA.
